Please accept my apologies for never responding to your email below, the fully remote working would not suit us as we would need some onsite involvement.

I am now preparing to commence the search for a BC Developer but with a number of additional skills (if this is achievable). To cut to the chase I am looking to scale down my work commitments and thus looking for someone who can cover the areas of IT that I currently look after.

This is primarily a BC Development role but I also cover a number of other areas;

• Microsoft SQL Server / T-SQL – we make extensive use of SQL Server Agent to automate the data integration between the various external systems and BC; iPads, Websites, WMS, Samples Database (bespoke app developed in-house).

• Understanding of networking / liaising with our IT MSP in relation to networking hardware, servers, desktops, printers etc.

• Support for scanner devices & packing bench scanners / printers (these are not supported by our IT MSP).

• Excel macro development / support – we have a number of macros that people use to manipulate spreadsheet data

• VB6 – I have developed a number of apps over the years (the Samples App. being the most widely used). Realise this is not a common skill these days, just putting out there the areas I work in.

Some of these areas are why we need someone who can work on-site at least some of the time.

We have 3 x sites (a 4th site will be “IT equipped” shortly). The person needs to be prepared to attend / work in all sites (2 in London, 2 in Dartford) and most importantly be prepared to respond to calls outside of 9:00 – 17:30 hours (the Warehouse work from 7:00 to 19:00 during the busy periods 8:00 – 16:30 hours the rest of the year).

These are all things I have taken on as the use of IT has expanded over the 30+ years I have worked here but I realise it is a big ask for most people these days (it helps that my Wife is a senior Director at GGL and we do not have children).

We do not have a need for 2 more full time people as the hardware related work is not that great but it is important that we have access to a resource who understands the idiosyncrasies of the hardware and is able to respond promptly to issues, especially in our busy period.

Would be happy to talk this through with you as I would like to understand;

2. The sort of salary range that would be expected

We have a board meeting on 26 September 2026 and I would like an understanding of answers to the above questions before hand if possible. I will be raising the request for another resource at this meeting, so this is not a “call to arms” just yet!
