At last year’s Microsoft Ignition event, Microsoft announced the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Layout update, a new mixed reality app that would allow users to design easily editable workspaces in the form of holograms in physical and virtual worlds. The app is called Layout, and recently, Microsoft has been busy making a range of technical improvements and by adding new features that make Layout more useful for their users. 

What is Dynamics 365 Layout?

Layout allows customers to bring physical designs from concept to completion with confidence. Users can import 3D models to experience room layouts as holograms in the physical world or VR. Users can then share their vision with stakeholders and easily edit layouts in real-world scale, helping them make better decisions before they build. 

It’s a helpful tool and one which attracted a lot of attention, and now with its new set of features, Layout is more helpful than ever. 

Locked Layouts

As the name suggests, Locked Layouts allows users to lock a layout, which stops any unfortunate accidents. If somebody tries to access a model or place new ones in a locked layout, on the third consecutive attempt, a prompt will flash, telling them the current layout is locked for editing. 

HoloLens 2

Another significant change coming to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Layout update relates to HoloLens 2, Microsoft’s AR headset. For starters, Layout now automatically downloads and installs onto HoloLens 2 during start-up, so users can begin to build immediately. Second, improved localisation has been added to Layout on the headset, with support for a number of key territories added:

• US
• Canada (English and French)
• UK
• Australia
• Germany
• France
• China
• Japan
• Taiwan (no speech support)
• Hong Kong (no speech support)
